Energy Services Intake Worker

Department: Energy Assistance

Shift: Monday - Friday (8 am - 4:30 pm) (9 month yearly)

WDEOC is a non-profit Community Action Agency dedicated to alleviating poverty-related conditions in western Wisconsin. Founded in 1966, we operate more than 20 unique programs for low-income families and individuals, including:

  • Head Start & Early Head Start
  • Homeless Services (Housing First, Homeless Shelters, Rapid Rehousing)
  • Child Care Partnership (Resource & Referral, YoungStar, Food Program)
  • WHEAP Energy Assistance
  • Weatherization & Home Rehab

  • Transportation Programs (Work-n-Wheels, Paratransit Certification)

We are hiring an Energy Services Intake Coordinator to provide initial contact and guidance to appropriate services for persons seeking benefits offered at Western Dairyland.  

Primary duties include:

  • Performs initial screening for individuals seeking assistance under public assistance programs
  • Provides information on eligibility criteria required for offered programs
  • Obtains personal and financial data related to eligibility criteria
  • Reviews and makes preliminary determination if individual meets the eligibility criteria
  • Determines eligibility for Wisconsin Home Energy Assistance Program (WHEAP)
  • Conducts interviews with individuals requesting assistance with energy and interactive home heating needs
  • Enters data into computer database system
  • Evaluates financial and non-financial criteria to determine eligibility for monetary benefits
  • Makes appropriate referrals for crisis assistance and weatherization programs
  • Researches, interprets, and explains federal, state, and local policies governing eligibility, legal rights, and responsibilities of applicants and participants
  • Provides outreach services to explain and market WHEAP
  • Coordinates outreach sites with providers
  • Makes presentations at outreach stations
  • Identifies and contacts potential eligible individuals in person or via telephone
  • Attends initial and on-going training

This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Preferred: Associates degree in Business Administration or related program with 2 years’ experience working with low-income populations.  The starting salary is $16.24 based on experience. We offer a complete benefit package, including:

Licenses, Certifications, Authorizations Required

  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must have an insured vehicle
  • Must meet Western Dairyland’s insurability requirements
