AmeriCorps Member - Mentor & Volunteer Coordinator

Job Description:
This is a full-time (1700 hours at 33 to 36 hours/week) position as an AmeriCorps member of our Chippewa Fresh Start program, which provides education, employment skills, and career direction for at-risk young adults by involving them in the construction of a new house.
This position begins September 1, 2022, and ends August 31, 2023, and generally works Monday through Thursday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm with occasional nights and weekends.
PRIMARY DUTIES
- Role modeling positive life skills and behaviors for at-risk young adults age 17 to 24
- Mentor young adults with independent living skills such as renting apartments, budgeting, obtaining a driver's license, etc.
- Encourage participants to set and work towards achieving personal, employment, and educational goals
- Assist with transportation as needed.
- Recruit and train volunteers and conduct outreach
- Supervise volunteers and maintain accurate records of volunteer participation
- Plan National Youth Service Day events
- Plan our annual 360 Drop-In youth event
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must have a high school diploma or GED, have a valid driver’s license, vehicle insurance, be able to commit to a full year of AmeriCorps Service beginning September 1, 2022, and ending August 31, 2023, be a US Citizen, US National, or lawful permanent resident of the US. Desired education level: College Graduate
SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED Skilled at taking initiative, problem-solving, and working independently to be able to develop and implement program volunteer program. Skilled at building interpersonal relationships, working effectively as part of a team, and managing volunteers. Strong verbal skills, to communicate effectively with staff, volunteers, and community groups. Skilled at written communication, to develop program materials and reports. Dependable and able to maintain a positive attitude, to fulfill the commitment to terms of service. Committed to the concept of national service and to making a difference in the community. Basic computer literacy, to be able to produce program materials and track volunteer hours. Able to react to change productively and to handle other tasks as assigned.
BENEFITS: Volunteer and Community Partnership Coordinator AmeriCorps members receive a stipend, paid bi-weekly, of $750.00. Upon successful completion of service, members receive an education award of $6,345.00.
