(WQOW) Governor Evers Highlights Energy Assistance in Western Wisconsin
October 2, 2025
(WQOW) - Governor Tony Evers visited Pigeon Falls on Thursday afternoon to learn more about the work of Western Dairyland Economic Opportunity Council's weatherization facility.
Western Dairyland's weatherization program has been operating for decades and it allows low-income families across Western Wisconsin to receive upgrades like insulation, furnace repairs, and weather stripping for their homes. That work results in lower energy bills each month.
While in Pigeon Falls, Gov. Evers also highlighted tax cuts from the recent state budget, including the removal of sales tax on household energy bills.
However, the ongoing federal shutdown cast a shadow over the meeting with the nonprofit.
"We really don't have any ideas of what's going to happen, so we just continue to have those conversations," Gov. Evers said. "I suppose at the end of the day if some program was really hurt then we might have to call the legislature back and say, 'Hey, what can we do to be helpful?' but until that time we're just waiting."
Leaders from Western Dairyland expressed concerns about the federally-funded Head Start program they operate, which offers no-cost early learning for eligible families.
