Crisis Assistance
Crisis assistance may be available if you have no heat, have received a disconnect notice, or are nearly out of fuel and cannot purchase more. WHEAP agencies provide a 24-hour crisis phone number to help with emergencies after business hours. Non-emergency assistance may include information on reducing energy costs, budgeting and money management counseling, and payments to an energy provider.
To qualify for emergency crisis assistance, customers must be experiencing an actual or imminent loss of essential home energy. The preapproved benefit range is based on funding availability. Deliverable fuel customers are eligible for the cost of a minimum delivery/fill.
Please note: contact your energy provider(s) to see about payment plans or similar arrangements to help your household catch up and keep up with your bills.
Tips to Prevent Disconnection
- Review your monthly bill.
- Make a payment every month, even if it is not the full amount.
- Work with your utility company to establish a payment plan and/or obtain a medical waiver.
- Don't stop paying during the winter moratorium.
- Practice energy saving measures in the home.
