Fresh Start Teacher/Transition Coordinator

The Teacher/Transition Coordinator for the Fresh Start Program is responsible for assisting young adults, ages 17-25, in obtaining their high school diploma/GED and entering post-secondary education. The coordinator will provide transitional services, career development, youth leadership training, and follow-up services for all Fresh Start members. The starting wage for this position is $20.92 to $26.15 per hour. This is a 36 hours per week position and the scheduled will be Monday through Thursday.
Essential Functions:
Educational Attainment:
- Oversee educational/academic and youth leadership development components.
- Assist members in developing community/service-learning components.
- Provide actual classroom instruction to members, in a group and one-on-one setting.
- Collaborate with CVTC GED program and utilize education resources as needed.
- Develop post-secondary education opportunities for Fresh Start graduates.
Transitional Services:
- Work in collaboration with Program Coordinator to provide pre-employment, education, and job search opportunities for students.
- Ensure smooth transition for Fresh Start members into post-secondary education and/or employment.
- Provide follow-up and maintain information on all graduates per current grant guidelines.
- Become a resource for Fresh Start staff to ensure all students leave with a complete portfolio and certifications.
Other Responsibilities:
- Responsible for overall program retention, data collection, and documentation for AmeriCorps and other grant reporting.
- Attend monthly evaluations on all members with other Fresh Start staff.
- Assist with program recruitment and youth enrollment.
- Become familiar with Fresh Start AmeriCorps and other grant requirements.
- Participate in monthly and quarterly Fresh Start staff meetings.
- Youth transport as needed.
- Other duties as assigned by the Housing & Family Services Director.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an employee must:

- Demonstrate proficiency with a variety of Windows-based software applications (Word, Excel, Access, Publisher, and Power Point).
- Possess strong communication, listening and critical thinking skills.
- Be able to work independently.
- Have experience working with young adults.
- Understand the issues and cultures facing young adults.
- Must have respect for the ideas, capabilities, and intelligence of young adults.
- Possess good organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize daily activities, anticipate changes, and meet all grant requirements and deadlines.
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in education or related required.
- 3 years’ experience working with at risk youth and providing career guidance
Licenses, Certifications, and Authorizations Required:
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Must have an insured vehicle.
- Must meet Western Dairyland’s insurability requirements.
- Pass FBI Fingerprinting background check per AmeriCorps Requirements.
