Staff and volunteers from local homeless shelters and community organizations will be conducting the biannual count of homeless individuals in the region on Wednesday, July 22.
Known as the Point-In-Time (PIT) Count, Western Dairyland Economic Opportunity Council (WDEOC) Housing Services Program Manager Jeanne Semb said the method is not ideal, but it is currently the only approved method that helps their organization know where they are at regarding the local unsheltered population.
“We canvass the areas of Buffalo, Eau Claire, Jackson and Trempealeau counties,” she said. “So we need lots of big teams to go out and check out our four-county area to see if we can find folks in their cars, outside, in places not meant for human habitation and in encampments.”
