Payroll/Benefits Accountant

Job Description:

We're hiring a Payroll/Benefits Accountant to join our Finance team. This position will be responsible for managing and processing biweekly payroll, including benefits and taxes consistent with federal and state wage and hour laws.  The Payroll/Benefits Accountant will also be responsible for managing and tracking employee benefit plans.  Maintain an accurate account of fiscal operations through knowledge of double-entry bookkeeping, generally accepted accounting principles, funding source requirements, and agency procedures.  

This is a full-time position located in Independence, WI. The starting wage is $18.34 to $21.50 per hour based on experience. A two or four-year degree in Accounting or a related field is required with three to five years of accounting and payroll experience. We offer a complete benefits package including:

Required Skills:

  • Be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Possess great attention to detail to perform with accuracy
  • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of double-entry accounting procedures, payroll procedures, worker's compensation and employer's retirement plan
  • Have excellent multi-tasking ability
  • Have excellent listening skills
  • Show ability using Microsoft 365, including Word and Excel
  • Maintain the ability to deal with multiple grants, work with detail, adapt to new ideas, and work with varying programs

Licenses, Certifications, Authorizations Required

  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must have an insured vehicle
  • Must meet Western Dairyland’s insurability requirements
