Weekend FOOD 4 KIDS

Weekend FOOD 4 KIDS is a volunteer-based project devoted to providing pre-K and school-aged children in Independence with nutritious weekend food assistance. Although many children are being fed well during the school day, some students struggle with getting enough to eat on non-school days, including weekends and holidays. RSVP is distributing weekend food to these children in an effort to increase food security.

Food is sent home with students on Thursday and can include enough food for all children in the home. Meals will vary each week, but a typical Weekend FOOD 4 KIDS bag will include easy-to-prepare food, fruits, vegetables, string cheese, and trail mix or granola bars. RSVP Volunteers assemble bags of food and deliver to children at public and parochial schools in the city of Independence, and also to Western Dairyland Head Start families from Independence, Whitehall, and Arcadia.

Weekend FOOD 4 KIDS is available to all children at Independence schools; there are no income restrictions. Enrollment forms are available at all schools, the district office, and the Western Dairyland RSVP office.

Volunteers & Donations Needed

Volunteers are needed to assemble and distribute meal bags for one to two hours on Thursday mornings. Monetary donations are also appreciated. For more information please contact the RSVP office at 715-985-2391 ext. 1205.
