The goal of Project Advance is to assist local businesses so they can expand and create new jobs.
Project Advance will train 60 low-income individuals from Western Wisconsin in either welding or machine tool careers. Training sessions will occur in the evening at Eleva-Strum High School and will potentially lead to careers with above-average pay and benefits.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old, a resident of Buffalo, Eau Claire, Jackson or Trempealeau county, and have income at or below the federal poverty level. A $50 non-refundable registration fee is required to help offset the cost of materials.
How the Program Works
- Screening process includes an interview, skills assessment and drug testing.
- 100 hours of hands-on training in welding and/or machine tool is conducted evenings at Eleva-Strum High School over the course of 10 weeks.
- After training is completed, Western Dairyland will provide job placement assistance with a local employer.
